Calais Campbell won’t retire just yet.
The Baltimore Ravens defensive end confirmed on NFL GameDay that he’s returning for his 16th season.
“It’s true. I’m coming back, baby,” Campbell said.
Campbell recorded 5.5 sacks in 14 games this season, bringing his career tally to 99. He’ll turn 37 right before starting the 2023 campaign.
The six-time Pro Bowler is under contract for one more year, but the Ravens might want to rework his $9.4 million cap hit to keep Campbell.
During his NFL Network appearance, Campbell also urged Ravens general manager to retain star quarterback Lamar Jackson.
“He needs to stay in Baltimore. He can’t go anywhere else,” Campbell said of Jackson. “He should play his whole career in Baltimore. The man is a legend.”
Campbell will continue a career worthy of Hall of Fame consideration in 2023. He spent his first nine seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before tallying a career-high 14.5 sacks in his first of three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He’s recorded 113 tackles and 36 quarterback hits since joining the Ravens in 2020.
