Breaking: Undrafted Bust Is On Trade Block

May 4, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

jaylen warren trade

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren could be on the trade block this upcoming 2025 regular season. According to a report, one source believes the Steelers’ running back may be on “thin ice” as the team might embrace the rebuild depending on whether they get Aaron Rodgers as their next signal-caller. After letting Justin Fields and Russell Wilson hit the market, the team could easily start rebuilding this roster, and Warren may not be a part of those plans for their future. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma State product was hoping to serve as a capable backup behind Najee Harris in the backfield unit.

However, after Harris’ release, it gave Warren a clear route to possibly take over, and if he wants to make an impact, he has to do that sooner rather than later. It’s easy to see why the Steelers could trade Warren since it might be best to garner some draft capital to start building for their future. They know no matter who may become the next quarterback of this franchise, they have to start rebuilding, and that should start soon if they want to see a drastic change in this organization. Warren might not get the best deal, but since he’s still on a rookie contract, the running back could attract these five suitors.

Next Potential Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst running back units in the league. Despite drafting Jaydon Blue, the team still has an issue in the backfield, and guys like Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders won’t make it any better. Jerry Jones must do something to address this unit, even though the wide receiver department needs some saving. Warren is a better fit who has a ton of years ahead of him that could carve out a role, even as a backup, to be a viable weapon in the red zone.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are experimenting with themselves as they failed to get anything going out of J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards last season. Najee Harris might not last beyond the 2025 campaign after drafting Omarion Hampton in the first round. This could signal that Harris may be a short-term option. If Hampton becomes their immediate starter, they still need a backup, and Warren could fit the bill.

Washington Commanders

The Commanders have one of the best offenses in the league. However, quarterback Jayden Daniels can’t rely on his arm all the time anymore, as opposing defenses will figure out the team. Washington might be getting better each year, but the running back unit still has a lot of question marks with Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler. Warren could relieve the pressure and get something going for the run game.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the Saints might be the NFL team that has to rely on the run game. With the Derek Carr injury, head coach Kellen Moore might not have any choice but to rely on the backfield unit. Alvin Kamara is excellent, but it’s hard to imagine he can handle most of the workload anymore. Warren might ease the weight since Jamaal Williams isn’t returning.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have faith in Keaton Mitchell, but with his recent performance after his injury, it doesn’t look promising. Head Coach John Harbaugh said they won’t depend on Derrick Henry running the ball the majority of time, but that might still happen either way. Warren has more experience and could salvage this backfield.
