Kansas City Chiefs impending free agent Charles Omenihu drops a cryptic message on social media this week. According to the report, many are speculating on the defensive end’s future after posting “Know your worth” on his Twitter page which is spurring rumors he’s likely one of the several impending Chiefs leaving in free agency next month. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Texas product missed the majority of the 2024 campaign after tearing his ACL but he did compete in nine matchups. The Chiefs have yet to offer him any new contract and they probably won’t consider they will probably focus on other players to extend such as Nick Bolton, DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown.
However, Omenihu did follow up by stating on his social media posting: “Please don’t read into what I say on this app during this time period, Don’t need ya’ll making assumptions.” Interestingly, he was quick to shoot down the speculation, especially in “such” terrible timing for his tweet. As much as there’s denial, deep down he was probably referring to his free agency status to some degree. The Chiefs are still recovering from a brutal loss in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles and it’s only going to get unfortunately worse for the team.
Omenihu did back up Travis Kelce‘s retirement speculation so it seems he may want to return with him as well. However, it may wind up being that Omenihu ends up in a new uniform next season. If that’s the case, two teams like the Ravens, Panthers could give him a legitimate chance in the defensive trenches.

More Defensive Experience
The Baltimore Ravens already have themselves one of the most powerful offenses in the league, but it wasn’t enough to push for an AFC Championship game. The pass defense was one of the worst despite the outpouring of success that Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry had in moving the chains. Many could blame Mark Andrews but it came down to stopping Josh Allen in a crucial moment that a younger defense wasn’t capable of doing. After losing Jadeveon Clowney last offseason, the Ravens got a legitimate upgrade.
Trenton Simpson took over duties and hasn’t been on an elite level in comparison to Roquan Smith and Kyle Van Noy. If the Ravens want to search for a capable defensive star, they might have to get creative to grab a potential gem. Charles Omenihu isn’t the biggest name but with the cap space the Ravens have, they may settle for him. He won’t stop every down but it’s a significant upgrade from Simpson who is fully healthy and ready to make an impact
Help for Brown’s Return
Meanwhile, the Panthers spent the 2024 offseason overhauling the passing game for quarterback Bryce Young. Things didn’t look pretty in the beginning but it became like heaven for the offense even though the team was out of postseason contention. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two starting point weapons that should give enough comfort in the aerial attack.
With that, the Panthers should look for defensive help, especially with star Derrick Brown returning to the lineup. Jadeveon Clowney will likely be cut this offseason so they’re going to need long-term help on the defensive side. Omenihu won’t be like god which no one should expect but gives the trenches some extra life and balance.
