Chiefs All-Pro Could Request a Trade After Super Bowl Beatdown – Ravens, Chargers Possible Next Teams?

February 11, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

travis kelce uncertain future

Before the contest, Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Travis Kelce is uncertain about his future as the veteran has been speculating about what he may choose to do next. After the Super Bowl loss, it seems apparent he may retire or request a trade depending on whether he wants to play with another team before he hangs up the cleats. Kelce did mention he has plenty of football years ahead of him so after the loss it’s likely that he’ll want to stay in the league but will it be with the Chiefs? Last year, the ten-time Pro Bowler agreed ahead of the 2024 campaign on a two-year deal but as Kelce has been depleting, retirement might be the smarter move in this scenario.

However, the veteran could be ambitious and want to sign with a contender to see what he could do without the Chiefs. Originally selected in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Kelce is one of the tight-end greats in the league after breaking multiple NFL records, including for most consecutive and overall seasons with 1,000 receiving yards by a tight end. His current relationship with Taylor Swift has been drawing a ton of media attention so he might want to use that leverage as much as possible before it’s time to retire. However, no one should expect the Chiefs to trade Kelce to the Ravens or Chargers but they could grant his release as sources consider him a cap casualty and could make a swerve move to sign with the two possible next teams.

Replacing Mark Andrews

The Baltimore Ravens season just like the Chiefs came to a sour ending but the team needs a couple more dependable options as pass catchers if they want to go further in the postseason. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is still MVP elite but with age, he’s not getting any younger so it’s time for him to finally get the chances he deserves like Eagles Jalen Hurts is having at the moment. Zay Flowers is one of the most elite receivers but Rashod Bateman has his moments but nowhere near what the Ravens are holding their breath for despite his extension.

However, Mark Andrews did not play up to his ceiling this past 2024 season and the future continues to look bleak as long as he stays on the Ravens. Isaiah Likely is the future of the tight-end department so they could either trade or release Andrews. With that, they may take a chance on Kelce if he ever becomes available. This would be a shocker but anything in sports is possible and Kelce may bring his one more huge run to help Baltimore win a ring.

New Friend for Herbert?

While retirement may be likely, Kelce may look at other contenders if he decides to leave Kansas City. Quarterback Justin Herbert is one of the best passers in the league but the only that’s stopping his full potential is the lack of weapons. Quentin Johnston isn’t getting any better as rookie Ladd McConkey is the only reliable playmaker. Kelce would be a significant upgrade over Will Dissly.
