The Kansas City Chiefs currently hold the 31st-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that could change in the coming days. Following their blowout Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the team aggressively attacked the tackle position by signing Jaylon Moore to a massive contract that even surprised 49ers General Manager John Lynch. However, they may not be done, as ESPN’s Matt Miller reports the team is in active talks to move up and select a tackle when the draft officially begins.
Obviously, this is a fluid plan, as the Chiefs won’t trade up in the draft if the right prospect isn’t on the board. With that being said, it’s easy to see why they want to make a move. Jaylon Moore is not a reliable starter, right tackle Jawaan Taylor has been a liability since joining the Chiefs, and left guard is a question mark following the Joe Thuney trade. Getting ahead of tackle-needy teams like the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams could be the difference between a postseason loss and another Lombardi Trophy, but they won’t be the only team trying to move up.
REPORT: Chiefs Hoping To Trade Up In 2025 NFL Draft
Looking across the league, the most likely trade partner is the Minnesota Vikings. Currently holding the 24th-overall pick, the Vikings only have four picks in the upcoming class, including just one in the first two rounds. Minnesota has one of the league’s most talented rosters, but it won’t stay that way without an influx of young talent. Given their complete lack of draft capital, Minnesota should welcome the opportunity to accumulate draft picks and make life as easy as possible for their potential franchise quarterback.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, should aggressively target the 24th-overall pick in the draft. As mentioned above, the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams desperately need offensive tackles, and they hold the 25th and 26th overall picks, respectively. If Kansas City wants to select someone like Texas’ Kelvin Banks or Ohio State’s Josh Simmons, they’ll probably need to make this move. Of course, they won’t be the only team interested in trading up, as the Baltimore Ravens could make a more convincing offer.
Too Many Picks
The Baltimore Ravens have too many draft picks, which is a good problem to have. As of this posting, the team is currently scheduled to make a staggering 11 selections during the 2025 NFL Draft. Even the least talented team in the league would struggle to fit 11 rookies on a roster, and Baltimore has one of the strongest collections of talent in the NFL. They physically cannot make 11 picks, so they’ll have to trade up a couple of times.
Eight of Baltimore’s 11 picks are on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, so they probably won’t move into the top 10. However, they could easily trade up with the Vikings in the first round. According to DraftTek’s Trade Value Chart, the Ravens could send the 27th-, 129th-, and 183rd-overall picks to the Minnesota Vikings for the 24th-overall pick. This will leave the Ravens with a better first-round pick while still having a healthy nine picks in the draft, while Minnesota will earn two additional selections. The Chiefs, meanwhile, could struggle to match this offer, as they don’t have the same draft capital as Baltimore.
