The staff losses appear to continue as Director of College Scouting David Blackburn may be heading down the Beltway
According to The Athletic’s Ben Standig, the Washington Commanders are expected to hire Baltimore Ravens director of college scouting David Blackburn.
Blackburn appeared to be next in line for the Ravens’ director of player personnel, the position he’ll reportedly be accepting with the Commanders, after the departure of Joe Hortiz to the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this offseason. Blackburn was in attendance for the final post-draft press conference, something Hortiz would do in years prior.
If Blackburn does depart, this would be the the seventh departure from their front office or staff. Others include:
- Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald (Head Coach for the Seattle Seahawks)
- Asst. Head Coach/Defensive Line Coach Anthony Weaver (Defensive Coordinator for the Miami Dolphins)
- Defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson (Defensive Coordinator for the Tennessee Titans)
- Wide receivers coach Keith Williams (wide receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints)
- Asst. Offensive line coach Mike Devlin (Offensive line coach for the Los Angeles Chargers)
- Director of Player Personnel Joe Hortiz (General Manager for the Los Angeles Chargers)
While the Ravens lost a fair few members of their staff, they did hire four new coaches:
- Inside Linebackers Coach Mark DeLeone
- Defensive Line Coach Dennis Johnson
- Defensive Backs Coach Doug Mallory
- Assistant Offensive Line Coach Travelle Wharton
