Recent reports indicate that Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has requested a fully-guaranteed contract in line with the deal the Browns signed with Deshaun Watson.
NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho believes Jackson is capable of landing this type of contract — but only if he “goes somewhere else to get it.”
“If you want to be the highest-paid player at your position, you’re going to have to go… [Deshaun Watson] had to go to the most impoverished franchise to be the wealthiest athlete as it pertains to guaranteed money,” Acho said on FS1’s Speak.
Prior to the 2022 season, Watson signed a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed contract with the Browns — seriously altering the way all comparable quarterbacks look at their future contracts.
Jackson just finished out the final season of his rookie deal and is on the hunt for a longterm contract. If Jackson and the Ravens can’t come to an agreement this offseason, the team could hit him with a non-exclusive franchise tag.
