Geno Stone, Baltimore Ravens, Agree to Contract

Stone proved to be an underrated part of the Ravens team in 2022. He proved his worth and solidified his rotational role during the injury to Marcus Williams. On the season, Stone managed 38 tackles, one forced fumble and defended one pass but had no interceptions. He was also a key contributor on special teams, playing 70% of special teams snaps. While the numbers are not particularly impressive, Stone seemed like Baltimore’s best safety for a large part of the season. He was more reliable in coverage than Chuck Clark and showed more awareness than rookie Kyle Hamilton early on. As such, Stone’s impressive 71.4 PFF grade comes as no surprise.

Stone was a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Coming out of Iowa, the safety did not flash the best athletic traits for a defensive back. However, he did have good production at Iowa. Stone’s rookie year was massively uneventful. Baltimore waived Stone after just two appearances (mostly on special teams). The Texans signed him but did not play him the rest of the season. After his rookie year, Stone signed with Baltimore once again.

In 2021, injuries wiped out a lot of Baltimore’s secondary. As such, Stone was forced into a starting role. He played 15 games, starting once, and managed 21 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one pass defense, and one interception. Due to the team’s injury woes, Stone played a combination of cornerback and safety, though he was clearly more of a natural safety. With the secondary back to full health for 2022, Stone was restored to his usual safety spot as a backup to Williams, Hamilton, and Clark.
