Giants “Likely” to Cut $16 Million Bust After John Harbaugh Visit

January 15, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

After bringing in former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh for a visit, the New York Giants will probably overhaul their offense without backup running back Devin Singletary. According to a source, the team could release Singletary and three other potential cut candidates to free up $24 million in cap space. This would be beneficial, especially for Harbaugh, who will be installing his own type of offense in New York, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart and emerging talent Cam Skattebo. The Giants have become the frontrunners for Harbaugh’s services after conducting a visit with him this week.

Singletary lost his starting job to Tyrone Tracy Jr. before drafting Skattebo during the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants have two reliable, efficient downhill runners in the unit, which makes Singletary an outsider apart from the group. With him getting little to no reps, it would be best for him either way to find a team, at least in a backup role. Singletary isn’t going to be a full-time starter anymore, but the former third-round pick has the potential to be a red-zone threat.

He has the size and abilities to move the chains, and he could be a cost-effective option for teams that need a decent option temporarily. Singletary may have lost his footing since his days with the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, but he could change the trajectory of his career if given the right opportunity. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if he gets a one-year deal somewhere to start and work his value back up with these three teams.

3 Potential Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

Speaking of Harbaugh, the Baltimore Ravens will probably rebuild as well after the latest firing. This means anyone’s job is at risk of being taken, depending on who the next head coach is. However, Derrick Henry won’t be cut due to the star power and explosiveness he has, but the veteran running back is slowing down. Despite having his bright moments on the field, Henry made a few costly fumbles through the 2025 season, so they need someone other than Keaton Mitchell to be another veteran presence.

They don’t need Singletary to be a prime Mark Ingram, but he offers some upside as a low-stakes downhill runner to help Henry in short-yard situations. Both have that “motor” size as a capable duo to run over defenders, which might be something fun for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers will probably lose Rico Dowdle in free agency after a strong 2025 season. Dowdle plans to join a team that will “use” him for 100% of the snaps. Even though the Panthers will turn their attention to Chuba Hubbard, including Jonathan Brooks, who is eyeing a return from his season-ending injury, the team should get Singletary on a one-year deal. Singletary isn’t going to win the job, but he would be in a better situation to make Brooks life easier and behind an offensive line that has been improved.

Kansas City Chiefs

It’s going to be an interesting offseason for the Chiefs as they’re entering 2026 with a lot of uncertainty. Patrick Mahomes is healing while both of his former starting running backs, Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco, are set to leave in free agency. This opens the opportunity for former 2025 draft pick, Brashard Smith, to earn the starting role. While they get him up to speed, the Chiefs shouldn’t rely on him to make a significant impact.

Singletary is still a solid running back in today’s game. If any environment can get him back to his former Buffalo self, it’s the Chiefs. The veteran might not be the permanent solution, but his presence could be useful for Smith, especially when the Chiefs are facing a huge salary cap hit.
