Instant analysis of Ravens' 20-19 loss to Rams

January 3, 2022 by Ravens Wire

The Baltimore Ravens suffered a heartbreaking 20-19 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams. The loss marks Baltimore’s fifth-straight and moves them to 8-8 with one more game to go in a Week 18 bout with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was a game that the Ravens were in control for most of, but lack of touchdowns in the red zone and a lack of stops on the Rams’ final possession sealed the fate of Baltimore, who now has only a minuscule chance of making the playoffs once the regular season concludes.

Quarterback Tyler Huntley returned from his one game absence and started the game for the Ravens, as quarterback Lamar Jackson was still unable to play with an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 14. Huntley finished the contest completing 20-of-32 passes for 197 yards and one interception. He moved the ball at a decent pace all game, but his one interception swung the momentum of the first half, and the offense was responsible for just 12 total points all game.

Tight end Mark Andrews broke the team’s single-season receiving yards record with a catch in the first half. It was a 25-year-old record that needed breaking, and Andrews adds yet another incredible feat to his resume.

On defense, safety Chuck Clark played extremely well, finishing the game with seven total tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Cornerback Tavon Young led the team with nine total tackles, and outside linebackers Tyus Bowser and Justin Houston had big moments as well.

One of the main reasons why Baltimore wasn’t able to pull out a victory was their lack of touchdowns in the red zone. The Ravens went 0-for-2 inside of the 20-yard line, leaving at least six points on the board.

Baltimore will now face Pittsburgh in what could very well be their last game of the 2021 season. While they still have a shot to make the postseason, their chances are very small, as they’ll need to win their final contest and get a lot of help from other teams.
