The Baltimore Ravens announced Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator Tuesday.
After revealing their hiring, the Ravens released a statement from John Harbaugh. The head coach said they conducted 21 interviews with 14 candidates before choosing Monken.
“Todd’s leadership and coaching acumen were evident from the beginning,” Harbaugh said. “He has a proven track record for designing and teaching offensive systems that allow players to succeed at the highest level. We’re excited to get to work and begin building an offense that will help us compete for championships.”
Monken spent the last three years at Georgia, where he led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles. They averaged 41.1 points per game during an undefeated season ending with a 65-7 landslide over TCU.
The offense averaged 501.1 yards per game behind quarterback Stetson Bennett, a former walk-on who finished fourth in the 2022 Heisman Trophy voting.
Monken will replace Greg Roman as Baltimore’s offensive coordinator. While the Ravens led the NFL in scoring during Roman’s first season in 2019, they dropped to 19th last season while placing 16th in total yards.
In his new role, Monken will look to ignite a Baltimore passing offense that hasn’t cultivated much production at wide receiver. The process will be much tougher if the team doesn’t retain Lamar Jackson this offseason.
