Baltimore Ravens fans aren’t alone in feeling perplexed about J.K. Dobbins’ status.
The Ravens recently placed the running back on the physically unable to perform list, but the reasoning remains undisclosed. With Dobbins away from the team, head coach John Harbaugh told reporters he didn’t anticipate the absence.
“I expected J.K. to practice, but it wasn’t in the cards,” Harbaugh said Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec.

Via ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, Harbaugh demurred when asked why Dobbins isn’t practicing.
“That’s a J.K. question,” Harbaugh said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “I wish it was a simple answer. There’s always a lot of things that go into football. There’s some complexity to it, and we’re working through all of that. J.K.’s working through it. I’m looking forward to when he’s out there.”

Dobbins averaged 6.0 yards per carry as a rookie before missing the entire 2021 season with a torn ACL. Making his 2022 debut in Week 3, he gained 123 rushing yards on 35 carries before missing seven weeks.
He looked better when returning, garnering 397 rushing yards and a touchdown over his final four games. That seemed to prime Dobbins for a bounce-back campaign in 2023, the final year of his rookie contract.
Dobbins called the business side “very hard” in a June radio interview, adding he’d “love” to stay with the Ravens beyond his current deal.
Neither Dobbins nor Harbaugh has offered any indication of whether the running back will be ready to start the regular season.
