Josh Bynes Returns to Ravens, Agrees to One-Year Deal

Veteran linebacker Josh Bynes has agreed to terms on a one-year deal to remain with the Ravens. Bynes now in his third stint with the Ravens is a veteran presence for a young linebacker group that struggled at times last season.

Bynes, 32, was one of the bright spots for a Ravens defense that struggled for a majority of the 2021 season. After being cut by the Carolina Panthers during final roster cuts, the Ravens signed Bynes one day later to their practice squad. Bynes was promoted to the active roster on September 28th, and would go on to play in a total of 14 games, starting in 12 of the them.

Bynes combined for 76 tackles and two sacks and added four passes defensed. Bynes made a noticeable difference to the defense, specifically in the play of second-year linebacker Patrick Queen. Queen began the season as the starting middle linebacker, but after struggling early in the season Queen was moved to the outside linebacker spot, and replaced by Bynes at middle linebacker. The move allowed Queen to move more sideline to sideline using his speed and quickness allowing Queen’s overall performance to improve.
