Lamar Jackson came down with COVID-19, costing him time last year. He got the virus for a second time earlier this summer, which cost him practice time.
While there are still risks, the COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing people from contracting the highly contagious virus, including the much more contagious Delta variant. Most importantly, it almost completely protects people from the most serious complications stemming from the virus, including death.
So far, the NFL has done a very good job in getting players to take the vaccine. While there are some notable holdouts, over 93-percent of the league’s players have been vaccinated against the virus.
It is unclear if Lamar Jackson, who now has plenty of experience with the virus, is among them. He has been extremely evasive when asked if he’s been vaccinated over the last few months. That continued today.

Bill Parcells famously said that the best ability is availability. That is certainly the case in 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on, but players have the option to take a significant step against the virus.
The stakes are even higher for a player like Lamar Jackson, a former league MVP on a Baltimore Ravens team that should be in the mix for the Super Bowl. Even on a personal level, Jackson is still working on landing his big second contract with the team. He has plenty of reason to do everything he can to have another elite season and force the team to pay him like one of the best players in the sport.
Whatever the case, hopefully Jackson is able to avoid more run-ins with COVID-19. He and the Baltimore Ravens open their season on Monday Night Football, on the road at the Las Vegas Raiders. That game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
