Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson recently received the non-exclusive franchise tag. That means he could negotiate a long-term deal with all 32 teams.
On Thursday morning, ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed that Jackson actually has the chance to make history this offseason.
And no, Schefter isn’t referring to the amount of guaranteed money Jackson could receive in a new deal.
“There never has been a QB to sign an offer sheet with another team after getting the non-exclusive tag, then wind up with that new team,” Schefter said. “In 2009, the Patriots placed the non-exclusive tag on Matt Cassel, but he then was traded to the Chiefs, where he signed a long-term deal.”
A suitor for Jackson’s services hasn’t emerged yet. The Commanders, Falcons and Panthers have already bowed out of the sweepstakes.
If Jackson signs an offer sheet with another team, the Ravens will have five days to match it or accept two first-round picks in return.
