Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson lost weight over the offseason and feels more agile than ever.
Lamar Jackson lost weight and it’s been the talk of the NFL world since he announced it two weeks ago. After organized team activities, Jackson shared why it was important he slim down after being a bit bulkier the past two seasons.
“I’m at two-something right now. I’ll just say it was important enough that I can move around a little bit extra, that’s all. … Just so I can be more agile. Be able to move more. That’s all.”
While Jackson is currently floating in the 200-209 pound range, he shared that may not be the target weight. In fact, Jackson doesn’t have a target weight, only a threshold he won’t want to be over.
“Just under 230 [pounds],” Jackson said.
So, does a slimmer Jackson have greater mobility? Is he faster? More agile? According to him, it sure does.
“Heck yeah. I feel great,” Jackson said. “It feels great to be back out here with my guys. Grinding, getting better. I feel great.”
The confidence in Jackson beamed after practice. It was recognizable in his both appearance and his attitude. Also, in his words, saying he hasn’t felt this good in years.
“It’s been so long. We had COVID and stuff happen to us. Slowed it down a little but I feel great right now,” Jackson said.
There’s been concern shared among pundits that Jackson could be too slim to sustain a season’s worth of hits. But Jackson said he doesn’t feel as though he’s sacrificing anything by losing the weight.
“We sacrificing our [bodies] each and every game—practices,” Jackson said. “I believe it really doesn’t matter about the weight.”
