Lamar Jackson passes Michael Vick for most rushing yards by QB in NFL history

The two-time MVP leapfrogged his childhood idol to break another record.

There was already no refuting Lamar Jackson’s status as the greatest dual-threat quarterback in NFL history after all had accomplished coming into the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 17 game against the Houston Texans on Christmas day.

The two-time league MVP was just 86 yards shy of tying four-time Pro Bowler and his childhood idol, Michael Vick, for the most career rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history. After ripping off a 48-yard touchdown in the third quarter, he was just 14 yards away from breaking it.

On the ensuing possession, he recorded a run of eight yards to pick up a first down and a carry of six yards to not only set up a third and short but etch his name into the history books yet again.

It would be Jackson’s last carry of the game and he would take his last snap of the game early in the fourth quarter. In just over three-quarters of action, he recorded 255 yards of total offense and scored three touchdowns after going 10-of-15 for 168 passing yards and a pair of scores to go along with his record-breaking 87 rushing yards and a score.

After being a catalyst in a second straight primetime thumping of another playoff team, nothing that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen does over the lowly New York Jets this upcoming Sunday should give him the edge in the race for league MVP over Jackson heading into the final week of the regular season.
