Local TV Station Gets Team Wrong Before AFC Championship

January 25, 2024 by The Spun

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – DECEMBER 09: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs shakes hands with quarterback Lamar Jackson #8 of the Baltimore Ravens after the Chiefs defeated the Ravens 27-24 in overtime to win the game at Arrowhead Stadium on December 09, 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Baltimore Ravens will host the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. Defeating the No. 1 seed on the road won’t be an easy task for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, a local graphic promoting the matchup isn’t accurate.

Kansas City’s KMBC used a logo for a local high school team named the Northwest Ravens rather than the NFL’s Ravens. That would probably be a more favorable opponent for the Chiefs.

On the other hand, the Ravens from Baltimore are rolling into Sunday’s game.

With Lamar Jackson under center, the Ravens have won seven straight games, six by double digits. That includes a 34-10 victory over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round.

Baltimore ended the regular season first in point differential, DVOA, and ESPN’s Football Power Index. John Harbaugh’s squad ranked sixth in total offense and defense while allowing an NFL-low 16.5 points per game.

The Ravens are making stout competition look like high school teams. Before outscoring the Texans 24-0 in the fourth quarter, they picked off Brock Purdy four times on Christmas and hung 56 points on the Miami Dolphins behind five passing touchdowns from Jackson.

Baltimore also has a 38-6 win over the Detroit Lions, who defeated the Chiefs in Week 1 and are playing San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game.

Jackson expects a “heavyweight fight” when facing Patrick Mahomes for the AFC crown. The MVP favorite is ready to earn the throne by taking down the champs.

“To be a champion, you gotta go through a champion,” Jackson said Wednesday. “That’s pretty much the mindset.”

The Northwest Ravens can watch the Baltimore Ravens play the Chiefs this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CBs.
