With Lamar Jackson formally announcing his trade request from the Baltimore Ravens, every head coach with less than absolute certainty at the quarterback position is going to be asked about it. Despite having a Pro Bowler in Mac Jones, Bill Belichick is no exception.
On Monday, Belichick was asked if he would pursue Jackson. But in pretty typical Belichick fashion, he dismissed the question, stating that he can’t talk about players on another team.
“I’m not going to talk about players on another team.”
When informed that Jackson is technically a free agent, Belichick maintained his silence.
Would you pursue Lamar Jackson? “I’m not going to talk about players on another team.” He is a free agent, Bill. No response.

New England Patriots fans aren’t quite ready to declare that they’re either in the mix or for Lamar Jackson or out on him entirely. But a few made it clear that they’ll be monitoring the situation closely.
The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson earlier this month, allowing teams to submit an offer sheet that the team has the option to match.
In asking for a trade, the Ravens can potentially get even more compensation than the two first-round picks that they would get for turning down an offer sheet for Jackson.
It’s an interesting situation to watch, but probably not up in New England.
