On Thursday, Lamar Jackson spoke to reporters for the first time since signing his new contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens last week.
The superstar quarterback fielded questions about his expectations and goals for the 2023 season — and it’s clear he’s set a lofty bar for himself.
Jackson — joking or not — said he wants to break the single-season passing record with more than 6,000 yards.
“I think I told someone like man I wanna throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have,” Jackson said, via team insider Sarah Ellison. “And I’m not an individual award-type guy or a stat watcher, I just want to do that because no one’s ever done it and I feel like we have the weapons to do it.”

The Ravens landed veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency and drafted top-tier rookie wideout Zay Flowers earlier this offseason. The team is also returning lead wide receiver Rashod Bateman and superstar tight end Mark Andrews.
The current single-season passing record is held by Peyton Manning, who threw for 5,477 yards in 2013.
