The Baltimore Ravens are seeking a new offensive coordinator to replace Greg Roman.
Routinely a run-heavy offense under Roman, the Ravens ranked 28th in passing during the 2022 season. Demarcus Robinson led all wide receivers with a modest 48 catches and 458 receiving yards.
Baltimore’s passing game revolved around tight end Mark Andrews, who secured 73 of 113 targets for 847 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games. Only two of his position’s peers (Travis Kelce and T.J. Hockenson) received more targets, but Andrews wants to see the team’s aerial attack grow.
“This is such a pass-happy league,” Andrews told NBC Sports’ Chris Simms. “If you’re not doing it, you’re gonna fall behind.”
Andrews added that the Ravens need to show wide receivers can thrive in Baltimore.
The Ravens traded their top wide receiver, Marquise Brown, to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s their only wide receiver to record at least 550 receiving yards in a season since 2019.
Baltimore hoped Rashod Bateman would ascend in his second year, but a foot injury limited him to six games.
While a potent defense and ground game led by Lamar Jackson has kept the Ravens in perennial playoff contention, they haven’t advanced past the AFC Divisional Round since winning the Super Bowl 10 years ago.
Andrews wants to see the Ravens bolster the passing offense, a goal that hinges on retaining Jackson this offseason.
