Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey is expected to miss the start of the regular season as he is expected to have foot surgery. The injury was first report by NFL Network Insiders Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.
Head Coach John Harbaugh during his media availability after practice on Wednesday confirmed the injury and stated that the injury was a “lingering issue” and does not believe the injury to be a long term issue moving forward.
This is a blow to an already thin cornerback room as Humphrey becomes the second corner to have surgery. Second-year corner Pepe Williams had surgery on his ankle Tuesday which is expected to also keep him out the first few weeks of the year.
Cornerback Jayln Armour-Davis and Rock Ya-Sin both remained sidelined with injuries that head coach John Harbaugh believes should not keep them out for long. Newly signed cornerback Arthur Maulet has yet to practice this preseason as he continued to deal with a hamstring injury. The only remaining healthy cornerback that was on the roster last season is Kevon Seymour who has had an strong camp thus far, but never appeared to be in consideration for a strong role within the defense heading into training camp. The Ravens could also move Brandon Stephens back to cornerback rather then playing him at safety like originally planned for 2023, along with Daryl Worley who has been a career corner but moved back to safety this preseason.
The Ravens needed another cornerback even before the Humphrey news, but this only adds to the urgency to add another corner before the start of the regular season.
