New York Giants Expected to Hire John Harbaugh

January 18, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

After a brief stint without a team, former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh officially has a new home. According to reports across the league, the New York Giants are expected to hire the one-time Super Bowl champion. It’s important to note that, as of this posting, nothing has officially been signed, but he should be the Giants head coach barring an unforeseen setback.

New York Giants Expected to Hire One-Time Super Bowl Champion John Harbaugh

Harbaugh joins his new team after a mostly successful 18-year run with the Baltimore Ravens. Originally hired in 2008, the former special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach helped turn Baltimore into one of the most stable organizations in the league. Joining the Ravens at the same time as quarterback Joe Flacco, the two made the playoffs in each of their first five seasons at the helm, culminating in a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Ravens missed the playoffs in four of the next five seasons, and it appears as though John Harbaugh could be on his way out midway through the 2018 season. However, the coach’s job was safe after rookie first-round pick Lamar Jackson took over for an injured Joe Flacco and installed some life into the offense. Baltimore won the AFC North with a 10-6 record in 2018 before Jackson established himself as an elite quarterback in 2019. The team went 14-2 and earned the top seed in the conference while Harbaugh earned Coach of the Year honors.

Unfortunately, John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson struggled to carry their regular season dominance into the postseason. They made the playoffs six times with Jackson under center but never even made it to the Super Bowl. After putting up a disappointing 8-9 record in 2025, the Ravens decided that the team needed new leadership and parted ways with Harbaugh. In total, the longtime head coach has a 180-113 regular season record and a 13-11 postseason record as a head coach.
