NFL Analyst Predicts Former Second Rounder As Trade Candidate – Saints, Panthers Logical Fits

February 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

david ojabo trade candidate

A Bleacher Report suggests the Baltimore Ravens’ former second-rounder David Ojabo could be a trade candidate this offseason. According to the BR NFL Scouting Department, the Ravens could release Ojabo to steer clear of saving salary cap for the upcoming free agency so they’re able to make immediate moves to improve the team. Baltimore probably won’t get much in return for Ojabo in terms of money, but they could receive some decent draft capital to help get something out of him. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Michigan product came into the league battling injuries since his college days and was never able to make a full-time start ahead of Odafe Oweh in the team’s linebacker unit.

However, it didn’t stop the Ravens from believing in him and his abilities to get healthy and make some type of impact. All things must come to an end, even if it’s too early, but since his Achilles injury, he was never able to capture full form in the league. The good news for Baltimore is they won’t have to deal with any guaranteed money on contract to help alleviate the pressure in their financial situation, but the chances of him landing a new team are minimal. However, teams like the Panthers and Saints could roll some dollars to take a bet on him to see what he could do on their defense.

Quarters and Nickels

Unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints will need to make some tough decisions this offseason by releasing some of their players to relieve the salary cap. This is something they can’t afford while General Manager Mickey Loomis does not anticipate a rebuild, but it’s urgent so they could win more ball games next season. After another disastrous year, the team will likely lose Chase Young and cut Hall of Famer Cameron Jordan to possibly make new to build a new regime. Derek Carr has no plans to take a pay cut so this may force the Saints to keep him for one more season until he hits free agency in 2026.

Meanwhile, they should do everything in their power to make life easier for the defense. David Ojabo is no reliable starter, but the Saints don’t have the necessary financial stability to afford a hot-hand pass rusher. Ojabo could be a temporary solution to help on the opposite end of Carl Granderson.

Rebuilding the Defensive Faith

The Panthers spend the majority of the last offseason rebuilding an offensive supporting cast for quarterback Bryce Young. However, he has some promising playmakers in wideouts Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, so they could be a solid fit for now. There are reports the Panthers may release veteran Jadeveon Clowney and if that’s true, they should keep an eye on the trade market for a new linebacker. Shaq Thompson may return, but either way, the team should be in the market for linebacker depth.

Ojabo probably won’t be a starter anytime soon but a new defensive scheme might change his chances of making an impact. With Derrick Brown making his return debut, the Panthers should put their defense in the best position to succeed with arguably the best defensive lineman on this roster.
