The Baltimore Ravens hired Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator Tuesday. The question is now whether he will coach Lamar Jackson.
With his Ravens future in flux, the free-agent quarterback reportedly didn’t have a direct hand in the team’s latest addition. Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Ravens “did not fully integrate” Jackson into the hiring process.
Fans are a bit dubious of the development and weary of constant Jackson updates leading to no resolution.
“Did not fully integrate. What does that mean?” a fan asked. “Lamar was definitely consulted, he may not have been in the interviews, but that shouldn’t be a big deal.”
“Why would they?” another fan wondered.
“Don’t think this fully describes the process,” a fan speculated. “Takes two to tango.”
“It’s pretty obvious nobody really knows what they’re talking about when it comes to anything Lamar related,” a fan theorized.
“I really just want it to end,” a fan wrote. “One way or another … This is just becoming a freaking clown show.”
Ravens head coach Jim Harbaugh said Jackson’s input was “folded into” Monken’s hiring. He told reporters weeks ago that the 2019 MVP “will be involved” in the process.
“I’ll keep him abreast to what’s going on, and I’m sure he’ll have some input along the way,” Harbaugh said in late January. “But I know his focus – like he told me – is going to be on getting himself ready and getting his guys ready for next season.”
Harbaugh also called it a “200 percent” chance Jackson stays in Baltimore. If returning, the 26-year-old would play with a new offensive coordinator.
Greg Roman and the Ravens parted ways after six seasons, four as offensive coordinator. Monken joins the AFC North squad after leading Georgia to back-to-back college football national championships.
