Lamar Jackson not only secured an historic deal with the Baltimore Ravens in getting his contract extension, he ensured that he will never face the same issue with the team that he had before.
According to ProFootballTalk, Jackson’s contract includes a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause. As a result, Jackson will become a free agent again when the deal expires in five years.
It’s incredibly rare for a quarterback to sign a deal with a no-tag clause. But after the drama that went down between Jackson and the Ravens over the past two offseasons, he probably wanted to ensure that he doesn’t have to worry about not hitting the open market in the future.
But most people have used the new deal to clown on ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio for insisting over months and months that Jackson could not secure a new deal without an agent. Everyone is ripping Florio a new one for that freezing cold take:
The “he just needs to get an agent to get signed” crowd is real quiet right now. https://t.co/2Loo4eH1Bu

The newly-minted highest-paid quarterback in NFL history certainly proved all of the doubters wrong by getting his new contract without having to export the task of negotiating the deal to a licensed agent who would take a cut of the deal.
Not only is Jackson now the highest paid player in the league, he’s going to be able to keep all of that money for himself and his family.
He’s proven us all wrong these past few weeks.
