Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have not come to a long-term contract agreement yet, but the onetime MVP reportedly still had a major say in the team’s search for an offensive coordinator.
The Ravens hired Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator earlier today. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, Jackson had some input on the hiring process following the dismissal of Greg Roman.
“I’m told since the the day after the #Ravens and Greg Roman parted ways, QB Lamar Jackson’s input on the offense from a philosophical and schematic standpoint was folded into the evaluation process for the next OC & communication from key players was welcomed, per league source,” Anderson tweeted.
Assuming this is accurate, it speaks to Baltimore’s apparent willingness to keep Jackson. Head coach John Harbaugh said during his season-ending press conference that the team is “200 percent committed” to signing the 2018 first-round pick.
Over the weekend, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero reported that the Ravens will slap the franchise tag on Jackson if they can’t agree to a long-term deal in the next couple of weeks.
However, NFL Network also said Baltimore could still trade Jackson “for a windfall of picks,” if the opportunity presents itself.
