In his more than two decades of coaching, Willie Taggart has never worked in the NFL.
That is about to change. The Baltimore Ravens are expected to hire the 46-year-old Taggart as their new running backs coach, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
“Taggart — the former head coach at FAU, Florida State, Oregon, South Florida and Western Kentucky — was once Jim Harbaugh’s RB coach at Stanford. Now joins brother John in Baltimore,” Pelissero said.
Taggart was fired by Florida Atlantic back in November after three seasons as head coach. He posted a 15-18 mark with the Owls and is 71-80 overall as a college head coach at five different stops.
His latest employment news has sparked plenty of conversation among NFL fans and media.
“This is a good hire for the Ravens, the team hasn’t had a good RB coach since Wilbert Montgomery left after the 2012 Super Bowl,” said one Ravens fan.
“I’ve seen this movie before. HE WILL SOME HOW END UP CALLING PLAYS IN 3-4 years,” predicted another Baltimore fan.
“I want friends like the Harbaugh family,” added a Florida State fan.
“Todd Monken, Willie Taggart, and Tee Martin all in the offensive meeting room in Baltimore. John Harbaugh is building a college super staff,” said KSR’s Adam Luckett.
“No way. Keep getting that bag Willie,” a second FSU fan chimed in.
With the Ravens, Taggart will get to work with a running back corps that includes JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.
