The New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a trade. But it’s not for the player that most might expect.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets have agreed to acquire veteran safety Chuck Clark from the Ravens in exchange for a late-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Clark has been the Ravens’ starting safety since 2019.
Clark was a sixth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and mostly played special teams for his first two seasons. But after being promoted to starter during the 2019 season, he became a force at safety, proving versatile enough to take down runners, defend the pass and even get after the quarterback in the pass rush.
NFL fans are praising the Jets for making such a savvy move that helps them address a position of need. Just about everyone is calling it a “solid” pickup o a “bargain” for them:
Obviously it’s not the trade that Jets fans are waiting for. That would be Aaron Rodgers, who the team has been actively courting for what feels like the better part of a month now.
But the Jets have more needs than just quarterback. Their safeties were a liability last year and it wouldn’t be a shock if several of their starters in the secondary were cut or not re-signed during free agency.
Does this move make the Jets defense any better?
