Potential Cowboys Bench Could Lead to Release

September 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After their latest loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the team may bench running back Miles Sanders at some point during the 2025 campaign. According to a report, one source believes the Cowboys should bench the veteran after his collapse against the Eagles. It’s still way too early to determine whether the team should bench Sanders, as they can’t make a decision based on just one game. Things got off to a hot start for the running back, breaking out for 47 rushing yards, and Dallas had all of the momentum to score a touchdown during the drive.

However, the veteran couldn’t finish it off, leading to a costly fumble before the game was suspended due to weather conditions. It was already a disappointing night for this run game, as rookie Jaydon Blue was inactive for the matchup, as many were waiting for his much-anticipated debut. It’s tough to think that Sanders can come back from that fumble, given that Javonte Williams had an amazing performance, and Blue has yet to get a chance. It’s going to be an uphill battle for the veteran as the season progresses, but unfortunately, the Cowboys may release him if it gets worse.

They will not do that anytime soon, so this is all just speculation and rumors. You can’t decide on someone’s future just from one mistake, but these four future teams may target the veteran if he becomes available on the market.

Potential Miles Sanders Bench Could Lead to Release – 4 Possible Fits

Potential Destinations

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have an interesting running back situation here. Between Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell, it can be anyone’s starting job up for grabs. While Pacheco will get the start of the regular season, he’s on the hot seat. There is room for improvement in this running back room, as Hunt is aging and Pacheco is entering his contract year anyway.

Sanders might not be the most flashy option, but he gives the Chiefs another safe option to lean on.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens could use some backup in their running back room. Derrick Henry is one of the league’s best yard-gainers, but even someone like him needs help. Keaton Mitchell showed some type of promise, and it’ll take some time for him to develop. Sanders may never start for this Baltimore offense, but he’s a rental insurance policy.

New Orleans Saints

After failing to get Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Cam Akers up to speed on part of this run game, the New Orleans Saints need to find a viable veteran. Alvin Kamara isn’t getting any younger, and Kendre Miller is still learning the ground game of this offensive attack. Sanders is past his prime, but his presence should give this Saints run game some bolstering.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are putting together one of the most old-school, but powerful ground games in the league. Between Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton, it’s looking like they will have no problem breaking the hard tackles. What they need is speed, and even though Sanders isn’t the fastest anymore, he could create some type of boost.
