Ravens, Chiefs May Sign Broncos Cut Receiver

The Ravens, Chiefs may sign Broncos cut wide receiver, Josh Reynolds this season before the NFL playoffs. According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos are officially moving on from the wideout instead of putting him on the IR after suffering a finger injury and wounds from a scary shooting incident. He could circle back on the team’s practice squad, but plenty of needy teams are looking to add extra depth to their receiving corps. Originally selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Texas A&M product was never able to live up to be a reliable weapon until joining the Detroit Lions in 2021, recording 608 receiving yards and five touchdowns in one of those years after starting 13 games in 2023.

Reynolds was a prime pass catcher in Jared Goff‘s first stellar year with the Lions but didn’t secure a crucial fourth-down catch leading to their 34-31 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. He became a free agent later that offseason signing a two-year deal to join forces with Sean Payton but never found success around that offense. However, once healthy, he could still sign a “prove it” deal next offseason to see if he has anything left in his tank. Reynolds won’t be a WR1 in this league but he’s easily a dependable reserve wideout that a contender could use in the postseason.

Even though he won’t be available until next season, several teams like the Ravens and Chiefs could use firepower in their passing game. These two contenders will likely see each other in the AFC Championship game barring any upset in the divisional round.

More Help for Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens knew walking into this season they were lacking a reliable pass catcher behind Nelson Agholor after releasing Odell Beckham Jr. from his contract. However, they got Derrick Henry in this past free agency which signaled a stronger emphasis on the ground game. John Harbaugh said before Henry isn’t the entire team but it’s surprising they haven’t found their consistent receiver behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman to catch those balls on crucial third-down situations. Baltimore will have to figure out how to survive with Bateman being banged up despite signing a contract extension this past offseason.

It doesn’t look to get any better since they were hoping by trading for Diontae Johnson, he would be a viable replacement for Beckham. The Ravens are suspending Johnson for one game after refusing to start in the matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson might be looking for a new team this upcoming offseason barring any resolution before the postseason. Reynolds won’t start a full game but they could sign him on a one-year deal to see how useful his hands could be for Lamar Jackson.

Disaster in Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to have the same wide receiver issues for the past three seasons despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls. They brought in Marquise Brown this past free agency in hopes of being a reliable replacement in place of Marquez Valdes-Scantling. After dealing with Rashee Rice’s offseason issues, he’s also another man down behind Brown who will likely have to wait until next season to play a full game. This forced the Chiefs to find a legitimate playmaker that could change the passing game which they may have found from DeAndre Hopkins.

However, he has yet to get a full-time snap count which raises questions about his abilities to play a part of a superstar team. They may be waiting until the postseason to get him more involved but it’ll be more efficient to target him more in the regular season to keep him fresh. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman have yet to do anything explosive and with Skyy Moore likely gone next year, they could use some reserve backup firepower. Reynolds may have played with Goff but any receiver could become the best behind Patrick Mahomes.
