The Ravens have waived wide receiver Diontae Johnson after trading for him

Not two months after executing a deadline trade for wide receiver Diontae Johnson, the Baltimore Ravens have waived him.

The receiver leaves behind a significantly disappointing opportunity for the Ravens, as they’d hope to use him down the stretch and incorporate him into their offense down the stretch of the regular season and into their expected Super Bowl push in the playoffs. But after a lack of usage, Johnson became disgruntled with the coaching staff, ultimately culminating in him refusing to play in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles after wide receiver suffered an injury in a one-possession game.

After which, the Ravens suspended him for their Week 15 game against the New York Giants before mutually agreeing to be excused from activities in Week 16 for their pending game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, a day before their Saturday tilt against the Steelers, Johnson has been waived. He will be subject to waivers.

The Ravens sent over a 2025 fifth-round pick and received Johnson and the Panthers’ sixth-round pick. The value was small, both as the Panthers’ pick will come early while the Ravens’ fifth-round pick will be late in the draft. They also did not have to pay much for Johnson financially, as the Panthers paid the majority of his remaining salary in the trade.

Along with waiving Johnson, the Ravens promoted both defensive back/punt returner Desmond King and wide receiver Anthony Miller.

The promotion for Miller comes with regard to wide receiver Nelson Agholor not playing on Saturday due to a concussion. However, the Ravens are looking mighty thin at receiver due to Rashod Bateman also being questionable against the Steelers with a foot injury. He was seen in the locker room on Thursday with a boot on his foot.
