Ravens DL Calais Campbell shares goals for career once he retires from NFL

July 13, 2022 by Ravens Wire

Baltimore Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell has long-been a dominant force over the course of his NFL career. However, he has his sights on a new career after his football playing days are over, and with it remains the same goal of winning championships.

In an article written by Jamison Hensley of ESPN, Campbell detailed that he has a goal of winning the World Series of Poker.  The veteran defensive lineman detailed the thrill of playing poker, even talking about how some aspects of football relate to what happens when playing at the table.

“It’s a thrill when you’re out there competing and you’re in the hand and you try to get good reads on people…I feel like with football, I’ve been very good at seeing things before they happen. It allows me to really spot my keys and give me information and allow me to process it. In poker, it’s the same thing.”

Campbell also revealed which he’d rather win, a main event bracelet or a Super Bowl.

“The main event bracelet might be on the level of getting a Super Bowl ring…But with the Super Bowl, I feel like it adds more to it because not only do I have to play well myself, but I have to inspire guys around me to play well. I take great pride in bringing a group of guys together.”

Entering his 15th NFL season, Campbell is still hungry to win his first-ever Super Bowl. He’s accumulated 773 total tackles, 93.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles and 12 fumble recoveries over the course of his 14 years at the professional level, showing that he’s a dominant player on it but also one of the better people off of it.

Campbell has high expectations for himself both for the remainder of his NFL career and after it. However, he’s set himself up for success, and with a clear passion he has his sights set on his goals.
