After a great deal of deliberation, Lamar Jackson finally agreed to a longterm contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2023 NFL season.
Jackson rejected a contract offer from the Ravens prior to the 2022 season, and for a while it looked like he may not re-sign with the team at all.
In a recent interview with ProFootballTalk, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta explained that the 2022 contract offer was “not dissimilar” to the one that Jackson ultimately agreed to last week.
So what changed Jackson’s mind?
“You’d have to ask Lamar that question,” DeCosta said. “You should try to get him on your show. I don’t know, I wouldn’t want to speak for Lamar.”
Jackson’s deal is reported as five-year, $260 million contract with $185 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid player in the league in terms of annual money.
Later today, Jackson will speak to media for the first time since signing his new contract.
