The Baltimore Ravens and safety Kyle Hamilton agreed to a four-year $100.4 million extension on Wednesday, making the 24-year-old the highest paid safety in the entire NFL. Of the $100.4 million, $82 million of it is guaranteed.
Drafted with the Ravens first pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Notre Dame. Hamilton has gone on to not only become the Ravens best safety, but arguably the best safety in the entire NFL, and this extension shows that. In just three seasons, Hamilton has been named a two-time Pro Bowler, first team All-Pro in 2023, and a second team All-Pro in 2024.
In those three seasons Hamilton has amassed 250 total tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, five interceptions, and 27 passes defensed. His unique size makes him a versatile player for this Ravens defense as he has the range and quickness to play as a deep safety, while also being able to use his large frame to play down in the box as a hybrid linebacker. Hamilton switched to a more conventional safety roll last season as Marcus Williams and Eddie Jackson struggled early in the season making the Raven one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. Hamilton would finish 2024, with 107 total tackles, one interception, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two sacks, on his way to being names to his second straight Pro Bowl.
Hamilton is the first in a laundry list of 2022 Ravens draft picks that are looking to be signed long term. Center Tyler Linderbaum also taken in the first round at pick 25, and tight end Isaiah Likely who was selected in the fourth round. Are two names that have been floated around as the next Raven to receive an extension. Other notable Ravens draft picks from 2022 include, defensive tackle Travis Jones, defensive end David Ojabo, right tackle Daniel Faalele, tight end Charlie Kolar, and punter Jordan Stout.
It will be impossible for the Ravens to sign all of those guys to long term deals, especially the kinds of deal the likes of Lindenbaum and Jones will likely commend. With a Lamar Jackson contract extension also in the near future, it makes this season that much more important to make a run at the Super Bowl, with roster turnover expected in the next two seasons.
