Ravens Injury Updates After Week 15: Marcus Williams day-to-day, Keaton Mitchell out for season and more

The Ravens had multiple players leave the game in their playoff-clinching win.

The Baltimore Ravens won their fourth straight game with a 23-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15 and became the first AFC team to clinch a playoff berth in the process but were dealt some tough blows to prominent players on the injury front.

During his postgame press conference, Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh provided updates on all four players who left the game with injury. The biggest announcement was when he revealed that rookie running back Keaton Mitchell suffered a season-ending knee injury that will cut his rookie campaign short.

Mitchell suffered the devastating injury while trying to keep his balance on a 13-yard run early in the fourth quarter, needed to be carted to the locker, and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Harbaugh also shared that veteran free safety Marcus Williams is “day-to-day” with a groin injury and both veteran left tackle Ronnie Stanley and second-year cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis are in the concussion protocol.

Williams’ last play of the game occurred on the last play from scrimmage in the first half and was his most impressive. After the Jaguars had moved the ball to the Ravens’ five-yard line on a 36-yard completion with 11 seconds left in the second quarter and no timeouts left, Williams made them pay for being greedy and not spiking the ball to stop the clock with a clutch open-field tackle of rookie wide receiver Parker Washington in bounds.

Williams landed on his hip out of bounds on the big play and after getting back on his feet, walked gingerly to the locker room. Thankfully, the Ravens have Geno Stone, who filled in for him at free safety in the second half. The diagnosis of day-to-day is very encouraging because he was never ruled out which suggests that he could’ve re-entered the game if needed but the team opted to err on the side of caution given his checkered injury history this season between his hamstring and pectoral.

Stanley and Armour-Davis left the game in the fourth quarter after being involved in plays where they took or delivered blows to the head. After lowering his head to make a block that helped spring running back Gus Edwards for a 20-yard gain, Stanley was able to get up and walk off the field unassisted. Armour-Davis was noticeably shaken up after assisting on an open-field tackle on Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr.

Players across the league who enter the concussion protocol have had a hard time clearing it before their next game this season. However, the Ravens have an extra day for their players to make it through and heal up since their next game will be a primetime interconference matchup with the San Francisco 49ers next Monday on Christmas night.
