Baltimore Ravens fans will recognize the name of one player at their rookie minicamp.
Samford announced Monday that former Bulldogs wide receiver Qadir Ismail received a minicamp invite from Baltimore. His father, Qadry Ismail, won a championship with the Ravens.
The younger Ismail wrote that he was “blessed” to get an opportunity to impress his dad’s former NFL team.
Qadir Ismail began his collegiate career as a quarterback at Villanova. During his 2018 freshman season, he completed 11 of 29 passes for 180 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in three games.
After not playing for two years, Ismail shifted positions to wide receiver. He garnered 182 yards in nine games before transferring to Samford.
Ismail settled for 21 yards on three catches in 2022 and tallied 13 receptions for 135 yards during his final season. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect went undrafted.
Qadry Ismail spent three of his 10 NFL seasons in Baltimore. After going the previous two years without a single catch, he took his career to new heights by exceeding 1,000 receiving yards twice.
From 1999 to 2021, Ismail totaled 2,819 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. The former second-round pick caught a 44-yard reception in Baltimore’s Super Bowl 35 victory over the New York Giants.
His older son, Qadry Ismail Jr., caught one pass as a Mercyhurst wide receiver.
The Ravens have also invited Auburn offensive lineman Kam Stutts and Oregon State linebacker John McCartan to their rookie minicamp. NFL teams can hold three rookie minicamps from May 3-6 or May 10-13.
