Ravens make six moves to officially trim roster to 80 players

August 24, 2022 by Ravens Wire

The Baltimore Ravens have slowly had to trim their roster down over the course of the past few weeks. They went from 90 to 85 players last Tuesday, and on August 23rd they were required to remove five more players from their roster to get down to 80.

Baltimore made six moves to get their team down to the required number. They signed wide receiver Demarcus Robinson which put their total at 86, but then added running back Gus Edwards to the reserve/physically unable to perform list while also letting go of wide receivers Jaylon Moore, Bailey Gaither and Slade Bolden (injured), offensive lineman Jaryd Jones-Smith, and inside linebacker Diego Fagot.

Robinson was officially signed by the team on Tuesday, and will presumably have a role in the Baltimore offense after having $895,000 out of his $1.035 million guaranteed. He’s a bigger-bodied player that can go up and make contested catches, something that the team has needed for a long time.

Edwards tore his ACL in the days leading up to the 2021 season, and his placement on the reserve/PUP list means that he’ll miss at least the first four games of the 2022 regular season.

Moore, Gaither and Bolden were competing for a roster spot in the Ravens wide receiver room. Moore had a strong start to training camp but didn’t produce much in the team’s two preseason games. Gaither and Bolden both had moments in practice, but were ultimately let go. Bolden was released with an injury designation.

Jones-Smith spent time with Baltimore in 2021, and was brought back by the team in 2022, while Fagot signed with the Ravens as a 2022 undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame.
