The Baltimore Ravens released veteran kicker Justin Tucker on Monday, a move that was speculated to happen at the end of last season. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta released a statement noting Tucker’s contributions to the Ravens over the last 13 seasons as well as creating so many unforgettable moments, while also noting the tough decision to release the most accurate kicker in NFL history.
Tucker’s tenure with the Ravens comes to a confusing and abrupt halt, as Tucker faces punishment by the NFL for the alleged sexual misconduct involving 16 massage therapist around the Baltimore area that reportedly transpired between 2012 and 2016. Tucker has adamantly denied the allegations made against him.
Following the news of the alleged misconduct against Tucker the Ravens stood by and said they would let the NFL’s investigation play out before making any kind of decision regarding Tucker’s future with the team.
But, despite NFL’s investigation still ongoing the Ravens selected Arizona kicker Tyler Loop in the sixth-round of last month’s NFL draft, all but insuring Tucker would be released. Tucker has been designating as June 1st release meaning his release will save the Ravens $4.2 million in cap space for the 2025 season, as the team spreads out his $7.5 million in dead money over the next two seasons.
Undrafted out of Texas in 2012, Tucker quickly made a name for himself as one of the most accurate and clutch kickers in NFL history. Through his 13 seasons Tucker has made 89.1% of his field goals, 98.4% of his extra points, and is the Ravens all-time leader in points with 1,775. Tucker also hold the record for the longest made field goal at 66-yards, a feat he accomplished back in 2021 against the Detroit Lions.
It will officially be a new chapter for the Ravens as they enter the 2025 season as Tucker was the last remaining player from the Ravens 2012 Super Bowl team. It’s currently unclear what the NFL may do regarding a suspension for Tucker or what his future may hold as kicker in the NFL. At 35-years old Tucker is coming off his worst season as a pro as he made just 73.3% of his field goals. It’s difficult to say if another team would be willing to pick up a kicker possibly on the backend of his career, and one that may not be available to play for a majority of the 2025 season.
