The Baltimore Ravens signed cornerback and Maryland native Ronald Darby on Thursday, just one day after Marlon Humphrey had surgery on his foot. A surgery that will place Humphrey out for the start of the regular season.
Darby, 29, is a graduate of Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, and is now entering his ninth season in the NFL. Drafted in second-round out of Florida State by the Buffalo Bills, Darby will now be on his third team in four years and his fifth team in his career. In his career Darby has 373 total tackles, 90 passes defensed, while adding eight career interceptions. Darby was also a member of the Philadelphia Eagles 2018 Super Bowl winning team, and had four tackles and two passes defended in Super Bowl LII.
Last season saw Darby play in only five games as a member of the Denver Broncos as he suffered a torn ACL and was placed on season-ending injured reserve on October 10th. The Broncos would subsequently release Darby in March of this year.
Darby now joins a thin Ravens cornerback room that is looking to make it through the start of the year in hopes Humphrey and Pepe Williams can return to make an impact. Darby will look to compete for playing time with fellow corners Rock Ya-Sin, Kevon Seymour, Jalyn Armour-Davis, and Arthur Maulet.
