Ravens Sign Veteran Kyle Van Noy to Practice Squad

September 27, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kyle Van Noy looks on before a game against the Tennessee Titans, Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, in Inglewood, Calif. Kyusung Gong, Associated Press

The Baltimore Ravens signed outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Van Noy previously worked out with the Ravens prior to the start of training camp, but ultimately the Ravens chose not to sign him.

Van Noy was again back in Baltimore for a workout on Tuesday and with injuries to outside linebackers Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo the Ravens are in desperate need of outside linebacker depth. This time the Ravens chose to sign Van Noy as he will join the Ravens practice squad.

Veteran OLB Kyle Van Noy has officially signed with Ravens. He’ll start on practice squad but it’s expected he’ll have role sooner rather than later

Drafted in the second round in 2014 by the Detroit Lions out of BYU, Van Noy now joins his fifth team in his 10-year NFL career. Van Noy had the most success during his time with the New England Patriots from 2016-2019. During that time Van Noy helped the Patriots to two Super Bowl victories and totaled 16.5 sacks during his four seasons in New England.

Van Noy would join the Miami Dolphins for the 2020 season playing just one season there before being released. Van Noy would return to the Patriots for the 2021 season recording five sacks, 66 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

Van Noy spend the entire 2022 season with the Los Angeles Chargers playing in all 17 games for the Chargers and again recording five sacks on the year.

While Van Noy isn’t an elite outside linebacker by any means, he has remained healthy for the majority of his career, which is something the Ravens desperately need especially at the outside linebacker position.

Van Noy was not in any teams training camp this year and will need time to get up to football speed and become acclimated to the Ravens defense. But if the injuries to Oweh and Ojabo appear to be more serious than anticipated, it shouldn’t be long before Van Noy is put on the active roster for Sundays.
