The Baltimore Ravens have signed 15-year veteran quarterback Josh Johnson. Johnson will now join his third team in two years, returning to the Ravens for the third time in his career and second time since 2021. Johnson last played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and saw game action in the NFC Championship after starter Brock Purdy went down with an injury. Johnson struggled in relief of Purdy completing seven passes on 13 attempts for just 74 yards, while being sacked twice.
Johnson last played for the Ravens in week 16 of the 2021 season as he took over for an ill feeling Tyler Huntley, who became the starter after Lamar Jackson sprained his ankle that season. In an emergency roll Johnson played well completing 28-of-40 passes for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a 41-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
With the addition of Johnson the Ravens now have six quarterbacks on the roster with Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, and 2022 undrafted free agent Anthony Brown Jr. In addition to those three the Ravens also have 2023 undrafted free agents Nolan Henderson out of Delaware and Dion Golatt Jr. out of Bowie State. Johnson at this point in his career will likely be no more then a camp arm, but his knowledge and experience could help a young Ravens quarterback room.
The Ravens begin OTA’s today, and the question remains if Lamar Jackson will be in attendance. Jackson was not in attendance for the Ravens mini camp earlier this month choosing instead to remain in Florida to continue his offseason training.
