Ravens Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Scott Elliott spoke on the new-look Lamar Jackson buzzing around social media.

Photos and videos of Lamar Jackson’s arrival at the Baltimore Ravens’ Under Armour Performance Center for the first day of organized team activities caused a stir on social media. Jackson appears noticeably leaner than last season and many are curious to know more. On Wednesday, the Ravens held media availability and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Scott Elliott was asked about the lean-looking Lamar.

“Lamar coming in on Monday [and] everybody’s talking about him being lean. Lamar’s in great shape,” Elliott said. “And what it’s allowing us to do — and I just got done with a training session with him before coming here is to add lean muscle onto top of it. We did shoulder conditioning today to help him be the elite quarterback that he is. I’d say this: I’ve never been more excited in April about Lamar Jackson.”

Scott was admittedly biased but said Jackson and those attending the voluntary workouts have hit the ground running.

“Again, you’re talking to a biased opinion here but [it’s] the Raven way. The guys have come in in phenomenal shape,” Elliott said. “So, that allows us to kind of start one step ahead of maybe where we’d have to start elsewhere or more basic. It’s a huge value. And it helps us progress more efficiently into phase two and then phase three.”

Among the players in phenomenal shape was running back Derrick Henry, who Elliott was asked about.

“When you get past just the ‘awe factor,’ of as advertised, … to see him in here running, lifting, I go back to the word ‘intent.’ He attacks everything with such a high level of intent and tenacity. That’s why he’s Derrick Henry. That’s why what we’re going to help him do [to] keep that same trajectory. He’s had one heck of a career. Our goal is it gets even better from here.”
