The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to trade safety Chuck Clark to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round draft pick. Clark has been the leader of the Ravens defense since taking over as a full time starter midway through the 2019 season. Clark was the defenses signal caller wearing the green dot.
Drafted out of Virginia Tech in the sixth-round in 2017 by the Ravens, Clark struggled early to find his spot on the field full time. It wasn’t until week five of the 2019 season after Ravens safety Tony Jefferson tore his ACL that Clark would get his chance to prove he belonged. Clark would finish the year with 66 tackles, nine pass deflections, and adding one interception.
From that point on Clark would never look back as he started in every game in 2020, 2021, and 2022, totaling a combined 353 tackles 32 pass deflections, and five interceptions during his time with the Ravens. Clark’s time with the Ravens appeared to be coming to an end after the Ravens selected safety Kyle Hamilton with their 14th overall selection in last years NFL draft. Reports began that stated Clark had asked for a trade before the start of the 2022 season, but the Ravens elected to keep Clark instead.
With the Ravens $9 million over the cap needing to make moves to get under the cap by March 15th, Clark was an easy move as this trade nets the Ravens nearly $4 million in cap savings. Clark cannot officially be traded until March 15th, the start of the new league year.
Clark had become a fan favorite around Baltimore and was regarded as a leader and great player to have in the locker room, but with Kyle Hamilton waiting in the wing and the Ravens needing to free up money. Clark was a no brainer to be one the first Ravens to go this offseason.
