Ravens will make determination on kicker ‘based on football’

The Ravens drafted a kicker in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They still have Justin Tucker on the roster. Head Coach John Harbaugh shared how the Ravens will make their decision.

Kicker Justin Tucker remains on the Baltimore Ravens’ roster as the NFL’s investigation regarding being accused by 16 massage therapists of inappropriate sexual behavior has not concluded. Meanwhile, the Ravens drafted kicker Tyler Loop in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

According to Head Coach John Harbaugh, the determination on how the Ravens will handle the kicking job will be “based on football.”

“As you know, Justin [Tucker] has been in the building the last couple of weeks kicking and everything, and I’ve had a chance to talk to him a little bit, and he’s been working hard,” Harbaugh said on May 4. “I would just say from the standpoint of the investigation and all that, we don’t know anything. We haven’t been given any information, as it should be. It’s all done the way it’s done. So, we don’t know anything along those lines, so you can’t make any decisions based on that. Every decision we make has to be based on football. There’s a lot of layers to that. You’ve got a rookie kicker in here. We took him in the sixth round, early in the sixth round. He’s a talented guy. Just from a football standpoint, salary cap, all the different things that you just take into consideration – whatever we decide to do over the next few weeks would be based on football.”

Going off production, Tucker finished the 2024 season with a career-worst 73.3% accuracy (22-of-30), including going 6-for-11 (.545) from 50+. Loop finished his college career going 6-for-9 from 50+, including a 62-yarder in 2024. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Loop went 13-of-14, and finished with a 60-yard completion.

Financially, the Ravens signed Tucker to a four-year, $24 million extension in 2022, which runs through 2027. If they were to release him this season as a Post-June 1 cut, it would save the Ravens $4.2 million in cap space in 2025.
