In the wake of Anthony Richardson’s injury this past week, the Indianapolis Colts could trade long-time tight end Mo Alie Cox before the 2025 regular season. Bleacher Report believes the Colts should trade Alie Cox since he might generate some legitimate interest. Richardson was the subject of trade rumors during the 2025 offseason, but after his injury, it could become difficult for the team to get some value out of the quarterback. Alie Cox won’t be the best available tight end if they put him on the trade block, but he could be a solid No. 2 option for a team that needs depth.
Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in the 2017 NFL Draft, the former VCU product has been consistent the past four seasons with the team, appearing in all 17 games, which should intrigue some teams that might want to trade for him. As the Colts will likely have a rebuilding roster this upcoming season, given Richardson’s health issues and the recent signing of Daniel Jones, it’s challenging to include them in the conversation of postseason contention. If they’re having early issues before the regular season starts, the Colts should start from scratch. 2025 draft pick Tyler Warren is a part of that new era, and that should automatically make Alie Cox expendable.

Potential Fits
Baltimore Ravens
Luckily, veteran tight end Mark Andrews might be able to keep his job with the Baltimore Ravens until at least his contract runs out. Isiah Likely has been nursing an injury, so that could give Andrews one last chance to keep his No. 2 starting job. However, this doesn’t mean he’s not on the hot seat entering the 2025 campaign, so it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll deal Andrews as he’s been the subject of several trade rumors this past offseason. If they move on from Andrews, they should invest in a safety option like Alie Cox to join the Ravens.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, other than tight end Zach Ertz, the Commanders don’t really have a reliable tight end in their offensive unit. John Bates is only useful in pass and run-block situations, but they must get someone who could take over naturally once Ertz decides to retire. Ertz is only on a one-year contract, so Alie Cox could be the favorable option until they draft a promising tight end.
New Orleans Saints
When you have two unproven quarterbacks between Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler, it’s always best to garner as many wideouts in the receiving corps as possible. However, Alie Cox could fit their budget of what they might look for, especially when Juwan Johnson hasn’t been the most explosive tight end in the world. They don’t need the best one either, but someone who can assist Johnson in the aerial attack and give Shough or Rattler more options.
Los Angeles Chargers
However, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, Justin Herbert, thrives better when throwing the football to his tight ends. This is why they signed Tyler Conklin to help Will Dissly in the aerial attack. Why not get someone like Alie Cox to bolster the unit further and give Herbert a solid three-set option?
