The team could bringing back a familiar face to add more depth in the defensive trenches.

The Baltimore Ravens brought back all five members of their interior defensive line from last season and they all unsurprisingly made the initial 53-man roster. According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team could be on the verge of reuniting with veteran defensive end Lawrence Guy after hosting him for a visit and workout on Tuesday.

Guy was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Arizona State University by the Green Bay Packers and spent two and a half years with the Ravens from 2014-2016 in which he appeared in 43 games, made 17 starts and was a core member of the team’s interior defensive line. He spent the past seven seasons with the New England Patriots, starting 103 of 110 games, winning a Super Bowl in 2018 and recording 10.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 37 quarterback hits.

The 34-year-old is coming off a down year in terms of production in which he didn’t record a least one sack for the first time since 2014 and recorded his lowest total tackles (38), tackles for loss (one) and quarterback hits (zero) totals in a decade as well despite playing in all 17 games and making a dozen starts. Nevertheless, he could still probably provide solid depth at defensive end/five-tech behind third-year pro Travis Jones and fellow veteran Brent Urban.

Just because the Ravens have brought Guy in for a visit, it doesn’t mean he could be potentially supplanting someone on the active roster. Given that he hasn’t been on another team since being released by the Patriots in February, they could be gauging how good of ‘football shape’ he is in before exploring possibly signing him to the practice squad. From there, he could continue working his way back into playing form and be elevated if and when needed.

According to the latest updates from the Baltimore Beatdown practice squad tracker, the Ravens currently have 15 of the 16 spots filled and the only defensive lineman to be signed to it thus far is undrafted rookie C.J. Ravenell.
