“Sky’s The Limit” – Lions Could Still Trade Top Weapon? 5 Suitors Emerge

June 3, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Even though there’s a lot of optimism for the 2025 campaign, no one should rule out the idea of the Lions to trade wide receiver Jameson Williams. Last season, they had one of the best campaigns as an offense, but that all fell apart in an embarrassing loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. According to reports, head coach Dan Campbell expects Williams to have a huge season this upcoming campaign and has shut down any rumors of trading him. However, in this league, anything is possible, and given that Williams was in several trade conversations, there are a lot of teams that could be willing to make an offer to bring him to their rosters.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Alabama and Ohio State product finally got his first 1,000-yard season last year, recording 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. Williams got his fifth-year option picked up, so he’s safe to stay with the team, but should the Lions trade him away anyway if they predict that they won’t have the salary cap for the future? After giving Amon-Ra St. Brown a massive extension, it’s hard to pull off what the Cincinnati Bengals were able to do with Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase this offseason. It’s too early to tell what will happen, so nobody should be caught by surprise if the Lions trade Williams if he doesn’t replicate the same success he had last year into this season.

Lions Could Still Trade Top Weapon Jameson Williams? 5 Suitors Emerge

Possible Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys finally have another capable wide receiver in George Pickens, other than CeeDee Lamb, in their unit. Despite that, they need an army of superstar talent if they want to have a true turnaround this upcoming season. Last year, the team lacked depth in the pass-catching department, and to ensure that never happens, they could push hard for someone like Williams as a reliable WR3 behind Lamb and Pickens to establish Dallas as a true dangerous NFC East threat.

Buffalo Bills

Meanwhile, Josh Allen established himself as one of the league’s top quarterbacks for the next several years. However, since they’re reluctant to re-sign Amari Cooper, they still need another wide receiver to bolster the unit behind Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman. Williams could justify being a long-term playmaker after losing Mack Hollins this offseason and could perform at greater heights behind one of the best arms.

Baltimore Ravens

However, the same can be said about the Ravens. Zay Flowers is coming off an MVP season, but they need some true stability behind him. Rashod Bateman’s job might be safe for now despite some trade rumors. Williams could finally solidify the wide receiving unit to give them a long-term WR3 once DeAndre Hopkins retires, possibly after this upcoming season.

Los Angeles Chargers

If head coach Jim Harbaugh wants this team to win football games, he can’t ignore bolstering the wideout department. He wants the Chargers to have a successful run game, but will that take them all the way? This is probably a long shot, so they could benefit from Williams’ presence to help 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey in the slot as a perimeter receiver.

New Orleans Saints

This could change the culture of the New Orleans Saints after enduring one of the worst offseasons in the organization’s history. Even though they have an inadequate quarterback room, they could always upgrade the wide receiver department to help Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler have a chance to sling it other than Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. No one will ignore Brandin Cooks, but he’s way past his prime and can only perform in situational moments.
