Baltimore Beatdown staff reacts to the Ravens loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Baltimore Ravens head into their bye week with plenty to work on after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-19. Below are the reactions from the Beatdown staff.
Inefficient, ineffective and a game you look at and wonder what happened. Yes, the Eagles defense is good, but the Ravens’ offense are behind only the Greatest Show on Turf Rams in many metrics. Yet, it was an ugly, sloppy, desperate ball-game where heroics from Mark Andrews were required to make things happen.
The Ravens’ pass protection appeared to regress to early-season form. Jackson was under duress throughout the game and it impacted his play.
Defensively, they fought for 53 minutes until they knew the game was cooked. Ravens fans were headed to the exits, Eagles fans were chanting and Saquon Barkley got loose.
Special teams, through 13 games, have not solved their issues. Justin Tucker’s reached new lows. Tylan Wallace faltered repeatedly and appeared gun-shy of his job.
Just an all-around ugly loss. The bye week comes with a sizable amount of work to correct the team’s direction.

The final score hardly tells the true story of this game.
The defense hung tough against a diverse, well-coached Eagles offense but the offense couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
Lamar Jackson provided his usual moments of brilliance, but between were several stunted drives with little rhythm or flow. That’s on Monken as much as it is on Jackson, and both will need to find a way to inject some life into the structure of this passing game. The biggest story, of course, is Justin Tucker’s continued struggles. The Ravens have seemed as mystified as anyone else, but with a bye week ahead, they simply HAVE to explore other options. There are a few positives: smart adjustments by Orr to shut down A.J. Brown in the second half and a solid shift by Tavious Robinson in relief of an injured Kyle Van Noy. But as of right now, the Ravens are at the mercy of their own inconsistencies. — Nikhil Mehta
The Ravens couldn’t have had a better start and worst finish to this game as they jumped out to a two-score lead. Then, they missed an opportunity to score a touchdown on their opening drive and Justin Tucker missed the first of three kicks on the extra point following their first touchdown. The future Hall of Famer continues to struggle with consistency and be a liability for the Ravens as he now leads the league in missed kicks.
Lamar Jackson had an up-and-down day and was off target at times in the passing game, including on a crucial third and medium that gave the Eagles the ball back in great field position.
Tylan Wallace had a horrendous day as a punt returner which cost the team dearly and nearly resulted in a turnover. Bad drops were compounded by a pass-happy script by Todd Monken when they were only down by two points.
The Ravens earned this loss and all but gift-wrapped this victory for the Eagles. Now they head into their long-awaited bye week with a lot of self-reflection to do and a favorable schedule down the final stretch. — Joshua Reed
The Ravens simply didn’t come to play today. While many will chalk up the loss to missed kicks from Justin Tucker, the Ravens’ offense was as disjointed as it has been all year with their only big plays came on a few Lamar Jackson scrambles and busted plays. They fumbled the ball multiple times but were fortunate to recover all three.
Defensively, the Ravens played one of their best games of the year, holding a red hot Philadelphia offense to just 253 yards. Lamar Jackson hasn’t looked quite as incredible as he had through the first 10 weeks of the season. Sure, he will still make a few incredible plays throughout the game like he did today, but he also missed multiple throws and seemed hesitant to run at times. Simply put, the Ravens haven’t been able to consistently play complete games this year. When the offense is on, the defense is off and vice a versa.
As for Justin Tucker, the team HAS to explore other options. Tucker’s misses have been the difference in multiple Ravens losses including today. The bye is coming at a good time for a team that has looked unimpressive as of late. — Stephen Bopst
Just a disgusting loss. The “best offense in football” showed zero fight, showing no consistency and scoring three points after the first quarter (outside of a useless garbage time touchdown).
Lamar Jackson barely used his legs despite lanes to run and missed easy throws, Derrick Henry continued to not be used enough and given weird run calls. The wide receivers barely made an impact. Mark Andrews is the only guy who showed up.
Justin Tucker’s struggles reached a peak as he left seven points on the field, dramatically hurting the team.
Defensive coordinator Zach Orr, who everybody wanted fired, and his defense have been the best unit on the team for three weeks in a row. Unacceptable considering how bad the unit has been. The bye week couldn’t have come at a more needed time. — Zach Canter
