After trading George Pickens this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers could trade for Colts wideout Alec Pierce before the 2025 regular season. According to a report, one source believes Pierce could fit with the Steelers, especially when they’re in dire need of a capable pass-catcher to streamline their offense. No matter who will be the quarterback for this new offense, the Steelers must put the “next man up” in the best position possible after returning to the playoffs this year. The Steelers may have DK Metcalf, but he’s a veteran and would need to target some homegrown talent that will last more than five years on this roster.
This would be Pierce, who led the NFL with 22.3 yards per reception last season. The wide receiver has the size and agility to make those elusive plays, but the scenery that he’s in with the Colts, he probably won’t excel in that offense, especially for a team that has a depleted quarterback. Originally selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Cincinnati product already finds himself expendable since the Colts have promising talent like Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and AD Mitchell. Pierce should join a team that needs another capable playmaker who can sneak in to make those relieving slant route catches.
The price shouldn’t be too costly for the Steelers as Pierce will be entering his contract year, but these two other teams could take advantage.

McConkey’s New Bestfriend?
Both Pierce and Ladd McConkey on the same team would be the no-brainer to boost the chemistry of this offense. Last season, the Chargers were enough to make it to the wild-card, but in a competitive AFC, every game must be won in the playoffs. Quentin Johnston had too many chances to prove he could make an impact, so he will likely get cut before the 2025 regular season after two unproductive seasons in the NFL. Veteran Mike Williams only gives the Chargers a little bit of life to breathe, but he won’t take quarterback Justin Herbert to the next level if they keep going backwards.
While it’s odd that they’re eyeing Keenan Allen, these two receivers won’t take them where they need to go. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh loves an old-school team, but he must understand the Chargers should continue to build. Tre Harris is a solid first step in that direction, but they need a proven talent to help McConkey in the slot, and Pierce could fill the role as another speedster alongside him.
Bolstering Baltimore’s Offense
Meanwhile, the Ravens must continue to improve their chances for a Super Bowl run. They’re always close every year, and it’s just one more play or two to get there. Unfortunately, wide receiver Rashod Bateman hasn’t been able to make it in the big moments like Zay Flowers. This is why they got DeAndre Hopkins in free agency, since he finally has that Super Bowl experience despite the loss. Pierce won’t repair the whole woe in the passing attack for quarterback Lamar Jackson, but he has a similar body type and special hands to make plays happen.
